I am encouraging people across Preston to consider downloading the free personal safety app, HollieGuard to their smartphones to help you feel safe.
This isn’t just a tool for women, it can be used by anyone who feels vulnerable. Once activated, the app can track a person’s location as they make their way home, if they’re out on a run or cycling, or simply going about their day to day tasks.
Shaking the phone will send an alert to a group of contacts to warn them that they may be in danger. It will also start recording audio and video which is admissible as evidence in court.
Other key features include, real-time updates on journeys, a meeting feature to allow users to let their contacts know when they are due to work alone or meet someone new; Man-Down alert when the phone detects sudden impact and a Duress Pin if a user is forced to cancel the alert.
The app was set up in memory of 20-year-old Hollie Gazzard, who was stabbed to death in 2014 at the salon where she worked, by a jealous ex-boyfriend who couldn’t accept that she had ended their relationship.
HollieGuard is the UK’s most downloaded personal safety app and has proved to be vital in combating Violence against Women and Girls.
