Law Students take on Parliament
16 Oct 2009
Mark organised a day trip to Westminster onWednesday 14th October for 30 Cardinal Newman College students studying A-Level Law. The students attended an interactive workshop, had a tour of Parliament and met with Mark in a question and answer session.
The visit starts with an interactive workshop for the students, giving them the chance to combine their knowledge of Parliament and prepare for their question and answer session with Mark. This is a unique opportunity for the students to meet with their MP and ask him questions about his work and issues that are of interest to him. In addition the students will experience the working environment of Parliament with a tour of the Palace of Westminster.
Mark said: “I am delighted to be able to offer this experience to the Law students of Cardinal Newman College. It is an annual event that I organise, in which students are given the opportunity to get a further understanding of politics and a day at Westminster. I feel it is important for young people to experience the law-making process first-hand and this tour enables that.”
Heather Brooks, Teacher of Law at Cardinal Newman College said, “The students are excited about visiting Parliament and the session made available to them through the Education Unit. In studying the Law A-Level course, our students are taught the process of law-making and this opportunity is extremely valuable for them in developing their understanding of this process. The visit to Westminster and the chance to meet their local MP for a Q and A session also increases the students’ awareness and interest in local and national politics and current issues.”
