Emmaus Charity Furniture Megastore
3rd March 2017
Mark visited the newly opened Emmaus charity furniture megastore in the former B&Q building on Brookfield Street. The charity supports vulnerable people affected by homelessness.
Preston Stand Together Against Racism (STAR)
17th March 2017
Mark was pleased to speak at the fourth annual 'Stand Together Against Racism' event (STAR) event in Preston held on Friday 17th March 2017 at UCLan's 53 Degrees building.
Bike Hub at Preston Train Station
12th December 2016
Mark was invited to cut the ribbon during the official opening of a new Bike Hub at Preston Station. He was invited to tour the new facilities, which include secure storage space for two hundred bikes, changing rooms and a station to check tyre pressure. The hub is situated next to Leisure Lakes, a family run specialist bike shop.
Diversity Team at Preston Police Station
9th December 2016
Mark met with Stuart Rutlidge (left) and Zahid Dudhia from the Diversity Unit at Preston Police Station to discuss issues in Preston including hate crime, under-reporting and social media.

Mark met up with Principal, Lis Smith to discuss future plans for Preston's College.
BAE Systems Opening of new Academy for Skills and Knowledge

Mark was invited to the opening of the new BAE Systems Academy for Skills and Knowledge at Salmesbury. The visit also included a tour of the new facilities.
National HIV Testing Week
25th November 2016
Mark met with Jane Altham, Project Worker during National HIV testing Week to raise awareness about their campaign.

Mark was invited to tour the purpose built accommodation available to people being assisted by the Recycling Lives charity. Ex-offenders and individuals facing homelessness are supported back to independent living through a programme of accredited education, training and paid work.
Rathbone Training Centre
14th October 2016
Mark visited newly opened Rathbone Training in the the city centre, where he met staff and learners. During the visit, there was a presentation about the training programmes offered as well as discussion about the learner's portfolio and career aspirations.
Ashton Primary School
6th May 2016
Mark was invited to present Ashton Primary School with a Unicef Award for being a 'Rights Respecting School'. The award is based on the principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation.
Preston Muslim Girls High School - Award Ceremony
29th January 2016
Mark was invited by Preston Muslim Girls High School to their GCSE Award Ceremony. After giving a speech, Mark presented special awards to pupils who gained exceptional GCSE results.
Barnado's Preston City Foyer

Mark was invited to meet young people,staff and managers at Barnado's Preston City Foyer.

St Gregory's School, Deepdale
8th January 2016
Mark was invited to speak to Year 6 pupils at St Gregory's Primary School in Deepdale.
Mark participated in a question and answer session with the Year 6 class. Some of the issues raised were recent events in France, voting on Syria, Party Leaders and the 'Send My Friend to School' campaign.

UCLAN Students Union

Mark met with Josie Linsel, President of the Students Union at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN), along with Education Officer Tasmia Salim (pictured left).
Mark was updated about the Student's Union's ongoing campaign to oppose the abolition of the Student Maintenance Grants.
Salvation Army at Yorkshire Building Society
20th November 2015
Mark was invited by the Preston branch of the Yorkshire Building Society to see the Salvation Army's Food Collection Point in their Fishergate branch.
Bank customers and members of the public are being urged to donate non-perishable food items, directly in store, which will be passed onto the Salvation Army's Food Bank on Harrington Street.

St Catherine's Hospice
30th October 2015
Mark re-visited St Catherine's Hospice on Friday 30th November 2015. During his visit, Mark met with Steven Greenhalgh, (right) Chief Executive and Director of Care, Jimmy Brash (left).
Mark was shown the recent refurbishments of a single room accommodation, the multi-faith chapel and the on-site Mill Café and venue space.
53rd Jamaica National Independence Day
9th August 2015
Mark was invited to celebrate the 53rd Jamaica National Independence Day at the Jalgos Sports & Social Club.
Jamaica National Day is celebrated to mark independence from the UK on 6th August 1962 with the local Jamaican community in Preston holding special events over a weekend in August.

Network Rail - Deepdale
24th July 2015
Mark was invited to view the work being carried out by local community groups and Network Rail to improve an area of wasteland in Deepdale.

St Gregory's Primary School
17th July 2015
Mark was asked to a letter to the Prime Minister by pupils at St Gregory's Primary School as part of the 'Send My Friend To School' campaign.
The campaign brings together thousands of children across the UK to speak up for the right of all children across the world for a chance to go to school.

Total Bitumen - Riversway
10th July 2015
Mark visited the Total Bitumen plant to meet with management and staff and to tour the facilities at Riversway.
The Total Bitumen site, based at Chain Caul Way has been producing bituminous products for sixteen years and currently emplus fifty four staff. Bitumen is used in the manufacture of road surfaces and its by-products are used to make waterproofing membranes and other insulation materials.
Sunday Politics Show

Mark was invited to speak on the Sunday Politics show which was was aired on Sunday 5th July 2015.
Topics discussed included fracking and wind farms.
Sisters4Sisters 'Experiencing Ramadan' Iftar
3rd July 2015
Mark was invited to be guest speaker at at a Ramadhan Iftari event.
The event was organised by Preston group Sisters4Sisters. Non-muslim participants were invited to join Muslims in completing a fast - i.e not eating or drinking from dawn to dusk, after breaking their fast at dusk or 'Iftar' time.
