Transplant 2013

(January 27, 2012)

Mark is working in partnership with Lancashire Teaching Hospital in Preston to help increase the numbers of people from minority ethnic groups on the NHS Organ Donor Register.

There is an extreme shortage of organs for transplants in Preston and South Asian people are three times more likely to need a transplant, but only 1% of people are on the NHS Organ Donor Register.  Last year 23% of people waiting for an organ transplant were black or Asian, but only 3% of organ donors were from these ethnic groups.

If you would like more information or would like to register to donate please visit the Transplant 2013 website http://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/ukt/how_to_become_a_donor/registration/consent.jsp
