Mark sees whats Intact in Ingol
23 Jul 2010
Mark today visited Intact in the Ingol area, which is the newest part of the Preston Constituency following the boundary changes at the General Elections held in May this year.
Intact stands for Ingol and Tanterton Community Trust and Mark was invited to view the Centre and meet with some of the centre users and Youth Volunteers. He was shown a DVD produced by the volunteers, displaying some of the work being carried out at the Centre as well as listening to presentations made by some of the Youth Volunteers.
Mark said: “One of the first things that I did in my life was volunteer and it’s through that work that I got involved in politics. I do believe that the work you do here is invaluable and I think that it’s important that the government through the Local Authority gives you the support that you need”.
Local residents volunteer their time at the centre to deliver free and affordable events and activities such as ‘Knit and Natter’, Lunch Clubs, Homework Club, Fishing Club, School Holiday Scheme, Genealogy Classes and Senior Football sessions. The Centre already has a state-of-the-art IT Suite which hosts a UK Online project and is looking to refurbish the kitchen facilities to establish a Community Café.
Volunteer Manager Helen Dixon said: “We employ 8 members of staff, 5 social work students on placement here and over 50 volunteers from a range of different background who provide over 350 hours of volunteering each month. Without our volunteers, we could not run a successful, vibrant and essential life line to the community.”
