Mark gets on his eco-bike for Freedom
22 Jan 2010
Mark will be visiting Preston based company, Freedom Bikes Ltd to have a go on their eco-friendly motorbikes and scooters on Friday 22nd January. The company specialises in low capacity motorcycle, scooters, electric powered mopeds and electric assisted bicycles and is based in the City’s Fishergate Shopping Centre.
Following on from the recent boon in green transport, the eco-friendly bike is fast replacing the electrically powered and hybrid cars as a more cost effective alternative. Low performance figures coupled with high manufacturing and retail costs have prevented the electric car from impacting highly on the motoring public, until now.
With the constant rise in the price of petrol, electric power is now ready to take the stand and start making transport fun, and more cost effective. Electric Scooters run on a ‘plug and charge’ system; similar to that of charging a mobile phone.
Company Director, John Hadley said: “I have spent my life working in the Motor Industry and I am fully aware and 100% in favour of the current incentives for electric and green transport. The feedback that we have received about our electric assisted bicycles has been much better than we had originally expected as they are now being used daily, for inner city transport, as opposed to being used for the occasional weekend ride which they were originally purchased for.”
Mark said: “Working in London during the week, I see many commuters using traditional motorbikes and now the eco-friendly electric bikes and scooters. I would like to see more people in our City seriously considering electric bikes as an environmentally friendly and inexpensive alternative mode of transport.”
He went on to say: “With increasing numbers of vehicles year on year, the congestion particularly in the City Centre; on the Ringway, Fishergate and Friargate is evidently set to worsen unless we can sustain a transport plan to reduce the traffic flow at rush hour. Easy rail links, public transport, the Park and Ride schemes, like the ones at Walton-le-Dale and Portway go a long way to ease the City’s congestion problem and I think incentives such as free tax discs for electrically powered scooters will get people to think about commuting to work in a way which will also play it’s part in combating climate change”.
The Freedom Bikes showroom is based at Unit 2.11a Fishergate Shopping Centre. Please telephone 01772 822885 for more details or visit their website at: www.freedombikes.org
