Mark up skills with Igen Ltd
17 Nov 2009
Mark will attend the opening of Igen Ltd on Friday 20th November, a new training facility in the City which helps people ‘upskill’ their literacy, numeracy, language skills and enhance their employability, under the Learning and Skills Council’s Employability Skills Programme .
Igen Ltd has been delivering the Employability Skills Programme to unemployed adults across the North West since November last year, when they won the Government contract. The Centre, which is based in Guildhall Street, boasts four classrooms, a breakout area, IT suite, meeting room and a new state-of the-art Smart Board will which soon be installed to assist learners.
The Programme will enable customers to work towards nationally approved
basic skills and employability qualifications. Young people and adults can get practical help whilst preparing CV’s, interview techniques and help with accessing support from other organisations as part of the careers and personal development services that Igen offer.
Mark said: “Along with the higher growth and inflation forecasts, which indicate that Britain is emerging from the recession, the labour market is performing better than most major economies and the Government wants to ensure that adults and young people, who are currently not working, continue to improve their skills and employability. The Government’s Employability Skills Programme has delivered basic skills to 1100 clients and I am pleased that this is now being offered in the heart of Preston. I am looking forward to meeting with the staff and tutors at Igen as well as some of the people who have accessed the courses offered. I would encourage more people who are looking for work to think about improving their skills to increase their own employability and to help meet the needs of prospective employers.”
Christine I’Anson, Contract Manager for Igen Ltd said: “The national achievement target for basic skills is 30% and we in the North West achieved above 60% pass rate. Our clients have said that the course is helping them improve their chances and choices in getting back to work.”
Mark will view the facilities, alongside representatives from the Learning and Skills Council and JobCentre Plus, before awarding certificates to the successful clients.
