Vote Mein for Victory
02 Oct 2009
Mark today (2nd October ) sent his congratulations to County Councillor Jennifer Mein who was elected as City Councillor for the Fishwick ward following a by-election which took place yesterday.
Jennifer Mein (Labour), who already represents the ward on the County Council won the election with 656 votes. Candidates Sharon Riley (Conservative) got 283 votes and Luke Bosman (Liberal Democrat) got 239 votes.
The by-election was called following the resignation of former councillor, Harold Parker who stepped down from his position due to ill health. Harold Parker served 44 years on the Council holding many important positions. He was also the Guild Mayor in 1992 and is a freeman of the City. He was also in full support of Jennifer being selected as the candidate for the Fishwick by-election.
Jennnifer Mein said: “We didn’t take anything for granted and this result just proves what good hard teamwork can achieve. I am very pleased that the people of Fishwick came out in support and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who helped me in the run up to the election as well as the voters who came out to vote. I look forward to representing my constituents on the City Council alongside Councillor Martyn Rawlinson.
Mark said: “I am very pleased that the people of Fishwick have chosen Jennifer to succeed Harold Parker as their City Councillor as I know she is very hard working and that she will continue the work that he did in the ward.”
