Veterans Minister to award special Badges in the City
26 Jun 2009
Mark has announced plans to host a special presentation event to award HM Armed Forces Veterans Badges to honour the city’s past service men and women. The event will be attended by Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Defence and Minister for Veterans, Kevan Jones MP.
Mark said: “I am delighted to announce that Veterans Minister, Kevan Jones MP has kindly agreed to come to Preston to award Veterans Badges at this special event. The badge is one way we can thank those men and women that have served all of us without question, whether it be in a peace-keeping role, a disaster area or a conflict zone and give some recognition for their commitment to serve our country. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who thinks they might be eligible to apply.”
The badge is available to all those who have served in HM Armed Forces including the Volunteers and Regular Reserves, and to war widows and widowers who are in receipt of a War Pension. There are no limitations on the duration of service nor on where or when an individual might have served.
Successful applicants will be presented with an Armed Forces Veterans Lapel Badge at a specially organised event on Saturday 18th July 2009 on Preston’s flag market.
Kevan Jones MP said “In addition to celebrating Armed Forces Day on 27th June, which honours Britain’s Armed Forces from the past, present and future, I am honoured to be invited to Preston and I am looking forward to meeting those men and women who have served our country to give them this deserved recognition for their dedication.”
Application forms can be obtained by telephoning the Constituency Office on 01772 883575. Completed application forms must be returned to Mark Hendrick MP by 30th June 2009.
