Mark Celebrates Community Day at St Ignatius School

Mark is to pay a visit to St Ignatius Primary School on Friday 12th June to attend their Community Day.

The school has been identified as the most culturally diverse school in Lancashire and the staff, parents and pupils will celebrate this by holding a Community Day to which they have invited their local MP.

Mark said, “I am delighted to have the opportunity to visit St Ignatius Primary School. It is important that we all celebrate the diversity of our communities, especially at a time when certain groups and individuals in our society threaten the harmony and tolerance towards different cultures that exist in Britain today.”

Pupils that attend the school come from twelve different backgrounds including people of Indian, Irish Traveller, African-Caribbean, Nigerian, Polish and Pakistani background and speak a number of different languages. To celebrate this diversity, parents have been asked to bring dishes typical of their cultural background for everyone to sample. Pupils have also been asked to take pictures of their families to demonstrate their customs and traditions and places of cultural interest in their local community. These photographs will be displayed in the school on the day.

Kath Jones, Ethnic Minority Achievement Teacher said ”. We place a great emphasis on delivering the message that we are one big community despite our differences and we encourage the children to celebrate these differences within our communities to promote peace in our society.”
