28 Jul 2008
Mark was the guest of honour at St Mary's RC High Schoool and Sports College in Bamber Bridge, where he presented the pupils of st Mary's with prizes and trophies for their academic and sporting achievements.
Mark spoke about the pupils achievements in sport and on their academic grades and also about the achievements of young people and their misrepresentation in the media.
During his speech, Mark also spoke about the importance of sport in school and the positive impact it has on children and their academic grades.
Mark said: "The vast majority of young people are achieving more than any previous generation. Here at St Mary's for instance, GCSE results in 2007 were at their best ever. 68% of pupils gained 5+ A*-C grades, 8% above the school's target and Key Stage 3 SATS results for 2007 included the best grades ever in English, Maths and Science. I wish all the staff and pupils every success in the future".
